"Armatage"
Penn Avenue is where most commercial activities in the neighborhood take place with a number of unique shops offering almost everything. Café Maude which is a well known gathering sport is where locals and visitors usually get together. The Armatage Park takes pride of its beautiful mature shade trees, ball fields, tennis courts and play equipment for kids.
The boundaries of Armatage are 54th Street on the North, Highway 62 on the South, Xerxes Avenue South on the West and Logan Avenue South on the East.
Originally, neighborhood of Armatage was a section of Richfield but was taken over to the city of Minneapolis in the mid of 1920s. The homes in Armatage started rising up in the 1940 decades and by the year 1960, majority of the neighborhood was fully developed and established. The Armatage Community School was founded in 1952 and named in recognition of distinguished leader, Maude Armatage.
Most of the housing in Armatage was built between the years 1949 and 1969 while around 5% of the houses were constructed before the Second World War. Most of the homes are story and a half style and rambler style. There are two public schools in the neighborhood namely the Armatage Montessori School and Kenny Community School.One of the most popular public facilities of the neighborhood is the Armatage Park which is home to wading pool, playground, playing friends, ice rink, picnic area and trails.
Residents can take advantage of home purchase or home improvement incentives in the neighborhood called the Armatage Home Improvement Program. ANA or Armatage Neighborhood Association aims to provide finances for home renovation to properties that are occupied by owner and absentee owned. It offers 4 percent low interest loans for eligible interior and exterior improvements including energy efficient upgrades. There are no income limits in this program.
For residents that want to get involved in the activities of the neighborhood, the ANA conducts general meetings every month where they can work hand in hand to create a powerful force for the stability and planned changes of the neighborhood.
Apart from that, the ANA also open communities for those residents who want to participate in and bring housing strategies to life. It does not matter if you have lived in the neighborhood for many years or you are completely new to it. You can get yourself involved for all the community activities.
The retail spaces in Armatage are comprised of individual stores and are mostly situated along Penn Avenue South. There is a park in the neighborhood with a community center used on various events and meetings. Though it is not as big as other neighborhoods, it has everything residents could ask for. The residents there were absolutely amazed by the great facilities and simplicity of the neighborhood.
