"Say hi to Deephaven's neighbor!"

Home to the Old Log Theatre, Greenwood is minutes from downtown Excelsior. If you're looking for a relaxing place to live on the southeastern shores of Lake Minnetonka, this is it. Cost of living is a bit high; not surprising considering all of the fantastic amenities Greenwood has to offer its residents. Ms. Deb Kind is a weak mayor. No, it’s not what you think! I'm sure Ms. Kind does a fine job! Greenwood is a “statutory city” with a weak- mayor/council form of government. Which means, the powers of the mayor are not greater than those of any other member of the council, with the exception of the mayor’s role as presiding officer at council meetings and several minor duties. About 20 minutes from Minneapolis, Greenwood is a prime location. Welcome home!

"Small town feel just over 15 miles from the " Big City""

Deephaven offers a unique opportunity relative many of its counterparts located around Lake Minnetonka. Deephaven is located on the east side of Lake Minnetonka. Its residents will experience the peace and tranquility of a lakeside town, yet are located only 16 miles from Minneapolis. The cities claim to fame is, arguably, Mahala Dutton-Douglas, a survivor of the Titanic who was married to Walter Donald Douglas (He wasn't so lucky). The Douglas family founded the Quaker Oats Company. I'd be more apt to mention Mr. Tim Herron, Professional Golfer with PGA Tour sins and graduate of Wayzata High School.

Although over 40% of Deephaven residents are 45 years of age or older, most would be surprised to find out, nearly 40% of households have children under the age of 18 living with them. Average income levels are over $100,000. Nearly all real estate in Deephaven caters to the more affluent. Once your in, resale values will traditionally remain stable or increase, as it is a highly sought after community. Welcome home!
Pros

"A small town feel is preserved just for you"

Every Summer I enjoy a friendly game of softball with my pals on Timpe Fields. Maple Plain falls within the Orono School District. This does wonders for resale and rental values. The unique benefit to this community as compared to others within this school district is affordability. There are a number of starter homes that would fit the budget of most new families moving into the area. Whether your coming to visit or passing through, stop by and grab a bite at Pete's Pizza or 'a cup of joe' at Blackwater Cafe.

The Baker Park reserve borders the east side of Maple Plain and offers 6+ beautiful miles of paved trails, circumventing Katrina Lake. This trail system connects with another on the NE side of the park and continues north through Loretto and all the way up to the southern edge of the Crow-Hassan Park Reserve near Hanover. Welcome home!

"Easy living on the west side of Lake Minnetonka"

Having lived in the neighboring city of Mound for 7 years, I can tell you this area offers a small town feel complimented by all the amenities one needs for one's family. Neighboring community, Mound, offers, shopping, dining, Wells Fargo, Caribou Coffee, Hennepin County Library, Health Care, and more all within walking distance. The Dakota Trail runs through Minnetrista from Watertown to Wayzata. On the south side residents and guests of the community can enjoy the Westonka Recreational Park.

Westonka schools are among the finest in the state. This hasn't always been the case. I played against Westonka as a youth and remember when budgets were so bad at the school; they had to cut sports programs. Now, the school is flourishing academically and in athletics! Welcome home!
Pros
  • Schools

  • Lake Minnetonka
Cons
  • Lake Minnetonka is an asset. Nonetheless, must traverse the shores to get to the "Big City".

"The most popular City on Lake Minnetonka"

Having grown up the in neighboring community of Orono, I have many fond memories of this fine city. What's now coined "Marquee Place", housing premier executive suites and three restaurants for business lunches and dinners, used to be the Wayzata Theatre. And yes, movies were only a dollar! I live and work in Wayzata. And, I would be remiss if I didn’t strongly recommend you stop in to McCormicks restaurant. Their service is fantastic and the food is delish! St Bartholomew Catholic School (St. Barts), located at Broadway and Wayzata Blvd., is a premier school serving your pre school and K-6 youths. For those of you seeking a quiet yet active community during your golden years, the Regatta offers 59 luxury residences for your upscale lifestyle. Welcome home!
Pros
  • All the amenities one needs
  • Lake Minnetonka
  • Close to major transit system (Hwy 394)

"One of the premier neighborhoods on Lake Minnetonka"

Did you know, the inventor of Roller Blade lived in Minnetonka Beach? Many of my friends grew up in this community. They are all still very close and many still live in the area. Minnetonka Beach is a very tight knit community. Its all residential. So, if you're heading there to shop or dine out, you might want to head up the road to Navarre and try the locally famous Narrows Saloon featuring live blues and fantastic food available for lunch and dinner. Minnetonka Beach is surrounded by the beautiful shores of Lake Minnetonka; the Lower Lake, to be specific. Big Island, Wayzata, and Excelsior are a short boat ride away. Welcome Home!

"How can 1 County offer so much - MOA, Lake Minnetonka, Target Field, Fogo De Cho, First Avenue, Lake Calhoun, Minnehaha Falls...."

Yep, the list goes on and on! There are so many attractions in Hennepin County, too many to count! But, what I can tell you is The Title of this Blog represents the diversity among attractions Hennepin County provides. Also, Hennepin County is a founding Member of "Cool Counties" a coalition of counties across the United States that are taking action to eliminate the causes of global climate change. As a local Realtor, I can tell you the Hennepin County website is one of the best for investigating residential property information. Of course, your first call should be to a trusted Realtor who knows the area you are investigating. Welcome Home!

"Medina offers choices - serves 4 school districts!"

Most of Medina sits between Hwy 55 and Hwy 12, just west of County Rd 101. What makes Medina unique is the fact that Medina serves the four school districts of Orono, Wayzata, Delano, and Rockford. There are a number of parks, lakes, and trails to enjoy with your family and friends. The Morris T. Baker Regional park reserve is a must visit! Contact the City and ask them for details regarding their Friends of the Park Program. Golf you ask? Absolutely! I grew up in Medina's neighboring city of Orono. So, the boys and I would frequently play Baker National Golf Course. Designed by Dr. Michael Hurdzan, ASGCA, the Championship Course opened in 1991. There weren't many trees and obstacles back then. Now, its a totally different story and quite challenging depending on which T Box you choose to take on. Welcome home.

"A small town believing residents and businesses can help one another make life better together"

Long Lake is near and dear to me. I've been a member of the Long Lake Chamber Of Commerce for the past 6 years, serving as its President for 2 of those years. Our family business, Albers Jewelry, has made its home in Long Lake for 28 years. The Mayor, a long time friend and past baseball coach (Sorry if this dates you Tim!), is all about serving his citizens and supporting area businesses. Mayor Tim Hultmann was the catalyst for courting the organizers of the World Wake Surfing Championships. 2013 marked the 2nd annual Wake Surfing World Qualifying Event held at Nelson Lakeside Park, on Long Lake. We certainly look forward to ensuring a long-standing relationship with the organizers of this awesome young sport that has gone "viral"!

Long Lake residents are served by the Orono School District. I am a proud alumni of Orono schools. Superintendent, Dr. Karen Orcutt and her team of dedicated educators are committed to providing a welcoming and challenging teaching environment. Recently, the Orono school district was one of three in the country to be named one of the National Schools of Character. It’s the first public school district in Minnesota to get the award. The athletic program is top notch and consistently competes at a very high level.

Long Lake and its surrounding communities offer boutique shopping, diverse dining opportunities and plenty of parks, trails, and lakes. Mark your calendar so you and your family can stop by our 4th annual SummerFest event June 2014. Its a blast. Welcome home!

Orono is a great place to raise a family. The city is unique to it's neighboring cities in that it has a broad geography. This ensures a diverse group of citizens, as well as, a flexible and engaged government, police, and fire infrastructure. Perhaps most importantly, the geographical landscape offers many destination attractions and local activities. For instance, the southern border of Orono includes Lake Minnetonka, one of the largest and most popular bodies of water in the upper Midwest. There are plenty of golf courses, parks & trails.

If you want to own a home with a neighborhood feel, a hobby farm, or a condo, Orono has it. Welcome home!
